We are looking for a People Relations Advisor to support the Netherlands market and join our team at our Amsterdam Head Office. As a People Relations Advisor, you will deliver a professional and flexible People Relations service by providing generalist advice and support to all colleagues. Ensuring compliance with all Company policies and procedures in line with CLA & Dutch employment legislation. You will be an ambassador for our culture and values, supporting all colleagues with day-to-day employee relations topics and contributing to a positive and compliant employee experience.

Key Responsibilities:

To provide practical and effective first line employee relations advice across JD Group to Line Managers and colleagues within Corporate and Retail employees along with the wider business. This includes (but is not limited to) providing timely and accurate advice with regards to disciplinary, grievance, absence management and family friendly policies:

  • Able to manage queries empathetically and in turn communicate outcomes clearly and articulately with the aim of minimising appeals.
  • Act as a team player with the wider People team by sharing knowledge and expertise.
  • Act as a case manager and provide first-line advice on long-term sickness, employee disputes, disciplinary and misconduct cases, complaints, conflicts and policy interpretation
  • Support and coach all colleagues to effectively manage and resolve employee relations and dispute matters through to appropriate conclusions.
  • Have an excellent working knowledge of up-to-date Dutch operational employment legislation, best practice, and case law.
  • Able to work autonomously and prioritise accordingly (with guidance and support from the People Relations management team where required).
  • Be able to use Occupational Health appropriately within people relations casework
  • Communicate with and support the People management team to ensure employee relations policies and procedures are fairly and proportionately applied, whilst identifying opportunities for improvement to current practices.
  • Understand JD Group responsibilities to statutory business regulations.
  • Assist with JD Group project work when required.
  • Maintain clear audit trails for all People records in accordance with GDPR regulations.
  • Support in ensuring that critical weekly/lunar/monthly and annual cycle People processes are executed within the relevant timescales.
  • Visit stores regularly to provide on-site coaching and support to Retail leadership teams

Required Skills/Experience/Knowledge

  • A completed academic degree or EQF qualified to Level 6. Level 4-5 may be considered if the candidate is able to demonstrate substantial relevant HR generalist based work experience.
  • Previous HR/People Advisor related experience is essential, preferably in a retail environment or another fast-paced, constantly changing People environment, with responsibility for managing high volume complex caseloads.
  • Excellent and solid knowledge of Dutch employment legislation and People Relations policies and procedures.
  • Be comfortable offering advice and minute taking in formal meetings to ensure all interactions are documented accurately and conducted appropriately.
  • Good communication skills in English with the ability to guide and influence and the confidence to challenge current practices appropriately where required.
  • Able to communicate clearly and articulately with all stakeholders throughout the business.
  • Proficient knowledge of HR Systems (Previous experience of AFAS/Workday/Dayforce/Greenhouse would be advantageous)
  • Proficient knowledge of MS Excel to be able to create HR dashboards (retention/turnover, absenteeism, performance, engagement, diversity & inclusion)
  • Flexible to work outside of standard office hours if required to support a 24/7 operation.
  • Willingness to travel regularly to our stores and the Distribution Center across the Netherlands (approximately 2 days per week)
  • Available for 38 hours a week
